Following Him

Hidden in the cleft of the rock
Covered with His hand
There shrouded in a misty cloud
God was passing by.

He said, “Will you follow me”
“Yes Lord let me go with you” I cried,
As he moved away
And then He was gone

Lord let me not be my own interpreter
The Words that you speak that touch my soul
Let me not interpret them presumptuously
But just wait patiently for you

The words you speak are spirit and life
But my interpretations are flesh and blood
Unless You reveal yourself who can know?
Unless You speak who can hear?

If I interpret Your revelation to me
If I think I know your will for my life
Then I have stopped following
And become set on the rails of presumption

If I say "I know where you are leading"
And push ahead of You
I know I will veer away from the path
Because I will hear You behind me saying “Follow me”

Lord just lead me where you will
I will not complain though the way be difficult
Though the path draws blood
If you go before me I will not fear.

Let me look back and understand your will
Let me see what your interpretation was
Let me marvel at where you have led me
And praise you the God of all Grace.

Exo 33:22  And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

1Jo 1:2  (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
Isa 30:21  And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
Psa 19:13  Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old. (Mat 13:52)
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. (Mat 11:25)
