Faith to Remove Mountains

A man testified recently at our group how God had provided a vehicle for him that he could not afford at a price he could afford. He said that he had said to the Lord that these are the features he wanted in a vehicle and this was all the money he could afford. Through a series of events he how has a vehicle for about 20% below the current market rate.

Then on Monday following, one of my staff had brought along a pamphlet for a Audi RS 4 Cabriolet about $150,000NZ $81,000US and £60,000 . He was showing it to the others and said “It must be difficult to be rich, sitting down at morning tea, trying to decide between the symphony sound system or the Bose sound system or whether to have Silk Nappa Leather sports seats or the RS bucket seats with electrical adjustment. Such a lot of difficult decisions!”

Then later in the car, Radio Rhema had two men discussing 'speak out your requests and you will have whatever you ask'. One commented to the other “what if it didn't happen -what would it do to a persons faith.”

So all of these situations started me thinking about faith and the validity of the concept of speaking out your specific request and receiving exactly what you have requested.

The two verses which I was reminded of concerning this are...

Joh 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Mar 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

So the principal is there -but how is it used?

The New Testament constantly talks of a persons faith...

Mar 2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
Luk 17:19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
Mat 9:22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
Mat 15:28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
Luk 7:50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
Luk 18:42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
Mat 8:10  When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

In each of these cases it was the persons faith that brought results.

Thinking of the films Star wars, slightly off the normal train of thought, but they use the term "the force". Now by “the force the Jedi knights use their mind to move articles around. There is a scene where Luke Sky-walker lifts his spaceship fighter out of the swamp and other scenes where they throw great heavy objects at each other when 'light side' battles the 'dark side'. Compare that with Mat 21:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

However what would happen if a mountain were cast into the sea?

-death of people,
-death of sea life,
-livelihoods gone,
-destruction of property

and all the resulting chaos because of someone's whim to move a mountain out of the way!! Think of the Somalia Tsunami!

Now that faith may have accomplished a great thing but it is not necessarily, an desirable thing.

People say of others "he always gets want he wants" A pushy individual who will stop at nothing to get his desire. In being pushy he believes he will receive, he has faith that he will receive what he desires and then proceeds down the path treading on everyone's toes to accomplish it. Ah... you may say he has real faith that one... but people would resent him.

Yet in both these cases the 'effective faith' has undesirable side effects. So what is the reason for this?

1Co 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way..... And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity{love}, I am nothing.

...and...1Jn 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Another thought ....The Garden of Eden was planted by God...

Gen 2:5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

So he put a man there to look after it.

Gen 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

What tools did Adam have to keep the ground? ...He had none. The tools came later through Cain. Do you think he would say to a plant move here or rock move over there and it would obey his word. Adam spoke as a mouthpiece of God, true and perfect love, nothing was impossible.

Of course after they sinned, they were sent out of Eden to work they had to labour with there hands.

Gen 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Which is why men became inventors trying to make the work easier... tools took the place of faith. Why ...

1Jn 3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

... they had sinned, they had lost their confidence, so they didn't receive.

In fact when you consider our society the whole basis is to have tools to take the place of faith. Our monetary system, health care, insurances, the accumulation of wealth, even the vehicles we drive have all come about as a replacement to faith.

And it is true the more wealth you have the more you can buy so the less faith you require. And in the wealthy developed nations which 'have need of nothing' to quote Revelation 3:17, what need of we of faith? As Jesus said...

Luk 18:8...... Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Thinking of the Audi car pamphlet, rich men ask what they will of a salesman and behold ... there it is.

That is why James said....Jas 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

The poor have nothing so have to exercise their faith.

Now in regard to using faith by itself -without the love ingredient...

Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

In this verse all the things people had done in His name -by faith -counted for iniquity because they didn't know him...

again... 1Jn 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

.... so all their works were without love.

If you do not have confidence there is grace....

1Jn 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Thinking again of Adam and the garden of Eden

Mat 15:13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

In other words everything not planted according to the will of God will be uprooted.

Joh 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

And like Jesus... 1Jn 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

When I see the Jedi throwing things about to destroy someone I consider that they may both are on 'the dark side'. You can have faith without love and the results are without love.

Gal 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision;...

Interesting word 'availeth' G2480 ἰσχύω ischuō is-khoo'-o

From G2479; to have (or exercise) force (literally or figuratively): - beable, avail, can do ([-not]), could, be good, might, prevail, be of strength, be whole, + much work.

Gal 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

So faith that worketh by love has force.

In conclusion I say- Know God First -then you will know his will and everything else will fall into place.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14
